Our Vision
Ending homelessness in Greater Moncton by uniting communities, government, and resources to provide immediate access to safe housing and life-changing support for all.

Our Mission
The Greater Moncton Homelessness Steering Committee (GMHSC) is committed to ending homelessness by addressing its root causes through person-centered, data-informed strategies. By leveraging Coordinated Access and fostering cross-sector collaboration, we connect vulnerable individuals with the housing and services they need to thrive.

Our Mandate
We lead a data-driven, person-first approach to end chronic homelessness and ensure equitable access to housing and services. By strengthening partnerships and using data, we drive lasting change, challenging stigma, and working toward a future where homelessness is rare, brief, and non-recurring.
How we operate

The Greater Moncton Homelessness Steering Committee (GMHSC) was established in 2000 to provide leadership in preventing, addressing and reducing homelessness within the Greater Moncton Area (Moncton, Riverview, and Dieppe).

An overview of the roles within the GMHSC and its responsibilities are outlined HERE.

The GMHSC operates as the Community Advisory Board (CAB) for Greater Moncton under the Government of Canada’s Reaching Home: Canada's Homelessness Strategy. This means we are responsible for:

  • Helping to guide investment planning, including the development of the Community Plan (where required) and provide official approval.

  • Assessing and recommending projects for funding to the Community Entity. **(PEAR)

  • Being representative of the community or region.

  • Supporting Community Entities in implementing, maintaining, and improving the Coordinated Access system, use of HIFIS, as well as preventing and reducing homelessness using an Outcomes-Based Approach.

  • Reviewing and approving the Community Homelessness Report.

The CAB is also responsible for determining where Reaching Home funding gets allocated within the community. This decision is informed by past work and current needs across 5 Priority Areas of Support (Housing Services, Prevention and Shelter Diversion, Client Support Services, Capital Investments, Coordination of Resources and Data Quality Improvement.)
